I administer two pages on Facebook...one for Ana Isabel Textiles and the other for the Silk Weaving Studio--as many of you know, I work at the Silk Weaving Studio 3-4 days a week. It's a wonderful place full of beautiful textiles and yarn. I feel really lucky to be a part of it especially since there are so many rad textile ladies who work there. I get to weave on some crazy looms and work on patterns that I wouldn't have the opportunity to work with on my own. All that, and I get to work with the most amazing material: silk!

So, please like both pages on Facebook. And of course if you are in Vancouver, come by the Silk Weaving Studio on Granville Island and see what we're up to!

bday pies

For the Mr's bday back in Feb, I baked him a mixed berry pie. He loves pie. I prefer cake but whatever ;) Although berries aren't in season right now in Vancouver, I did get some organic ones--he really likes berry pies. I don't normally bake pies because the dough is so tricky but I followed Smitten Kitchen's recipe and it worked out great. Have I mentioned how much I love Smitten Kitchen? I swear every recipe that I've tried from her blog works perfectly.

There was a little too much liquid while baking so it sort of flooded the one side of the pie....ah well, it was so delicious and the filling did firm up after cooling.

Below is a test swatch of something I'm working on. Printed warps...I'm in love with them.

One of the things that I've learned since trying to sell my work is that you constantly have to review things. Review your work, review your website, your shop, everything until you find something that works and feels right. I'm also always reviewing ways to streamline my process, because as you can imagine, weaving takes a while and in order to make my work somewhat affordable, it takes some careful planning and research.

Another thing I'm always thinking about is how to photograph my work properly. It's still something I'm working on but this week I feel like I'm getting closer. This latest series of pics, for me, captures what the textile is about. I wanted a way to capture colour, sheen, texture and  how the textile drapes. I also wanted to see all the pieces together as a series...natural dyes look great together.

Anyway, I should get the day started. I'm weaving the whole day...I feel really lucky that I get to do that.
