Sundays

Sundays have recently become my favourite day of the week. It may be because it's my only real "day off". I actually do work on Sundays but at home...most recently I have started working on samples for a few workshops I hope to teach in the new year.

Other recent Sunday activities:
  • making meyer lemon and vanilla marmalade (so delicious!)
  • apple sauce making
  • various soup making
  • cleaning (it's gotta be done though not my fave thing to do)
  • cookie/cake baking (we could probably do without this one but it's also delicious.
  • knitting cowls to keep me warm
What do you like doing on Sundays?

On another unrelated note I have been thinking a lot lately about stuff. About making stuff. About buying stuff. About the advertising of stuff. And now that we are getting into the season of stuff aka Christmas...it makes me think even more about mindless purchasing of stuff.

Also how we are more likely to buy a replacement then repair (and how often it's actually cheaper to just replace something then repair it).

Ok well, I know many people who don't go around just buying anything and actually do think about where their money is going, both because they have to and also because they want to. But after reading the newspaper reports of black Friday violence or just listening to strangers stress about how they are going to afford to get so and so what they want for Christmas...I wonder if they know they have a choice. A choice not to participate...or to change the way things are done in their circle. But even bigger, to change the way they consume.

What am I getting at? I guess I would really like it if people just thought about what they were doing. Actually thinking about where and on what to spend their money. What do you want to support? Because the minute you buy stuff, you are voting with your money.

So in the start of this season of stuff...be thoughtful. Start new traditions, like no presents or home made presents or whatever. Don't let advertisers tell you what you need. You decide.

Phew...I'm done preaching now.

xo dear readers.

Circle Craft Christmas Market was really great. Lots of people came out and it looked like the vendors did some selling which is always good. I was at the Capilano University booth, hanging out and weaving a bit on the table loom. Above is a pic of a current student who was spinning up a storm and the textile program coordinator/instructor, Mary Lou. It was fun times. Oh and I'm so flattered that they asked to use my picture on the Textile Art poster. Oh man, I remember that day of untangling (one of many!).

I'm busy at the moment with all my "stuff" but I wanted to post here that if any of you lovely readers need anything woven for the holidays, now is the time to commission. Last year I had to turn some projects down because it was just too late. Anyway so, if you are interested in a hand woven/hand dyed piece for the holidays, please feel free to contact me at dreamyisabel at gmail dot com.

Ok, back to writing. I'm just finishing up some course proposals that I'm hoping to teach in the spring.

Yikes...I just realized that I hadn't updated this space for a while. My apologies. I've been busy, you know how it goes.

I've been working away on a few different things...it's all too early to share but I will soon. This past weekend I started a little indigo vat..I needed a bunch of blue fabric and so decided that indigo was the way to go. No matter how many times I start a vat, I still think it's magical and that I'm so lucky to have that knowledge. (Above is a picture of my stock solution sorting itself out and below a picture of my finished vat).

This is a bit of a random post but I wanted to close it by saying that I will be at Circle Craft on Saturday "womaning" the Capilano University booth in the afternoon so if you're in the downtown Vancouver area, please pop in. Circle Craft puts on a great holiday sale!

Be in touch...
