Every time I go to write in this space, I get a bit of a blank...it's always hardest to start a post. well, here I am posting from my little tablet while my little baby sleeps in the ergo.
Things are still slow on my end. I didn't mention in my last post that I am still some where warm, hanging out and avoiding winter. but it's coming to an end and in a few short weeks I will be home again. I've enjoyed this baby moon-such an amazing start to my motherhood journey, but am looking forward to getting back into our house with all our own stuff, to family and friends..and my loom.
I've got some exciting stuff happening this year that I will write about including a show in June that I'm looking forward to. more on this soon.
Until then, I will enjoy these last few weeks of warm sun.
The last time I posted I was about 6months pregnant and already I have a 3 month old! My apologies. I did think that I would continue to update the blog but these first few months kicked my butt. I'm just finally feeling like I'm getting some sort of understanding of this mama stuff. (just a little bit).
I want to introduce my daughter Violet Gracie. she's just the sweetest thing. I'm amazed by her everyday.
The first 3months are tough business...and I hard time picturing how I was going to get back to weaving but now I can see it which makes me happy. It will involve some tired days but I'm already tired so not much difference there.
thanks to all those who still check in... I will try harder to keep this space updated.
I can't believe that June is almost over. How does that keep happening? These months seem to fly by...probably because for me the countdown is on. I'm 33 weeks pregnant...almost there!
The Collections show
worked out really well and I am super happy with the way that my and Claire's
pieces looked and interacted with each other. Below is one of three of my white on white overshot weavings and Claire's beautiful porcelain vessels.
I've started my next series already...this was me dressing my loom. I'm trying to build up my stock at the studio before I go on my maternity break. This series is about playing with light and dark. It's a series of 5, all of which will be a bit different.
That's basically what I've been up to...my energy levels are pretty low these days so I don't get as much done as I used to but I'm plugging along.
I've been busy working away on a bunch of new work including some pieces for the upcoming show "Collections" over at the Silk Weaving Studio. As I mentioned I'm collaborating with Claire from Heyday Design who does such beautiful porcelain pieces. I can't wait to see our pieces interact with each other.
A little sneak peek of mine (sorry about the darkish picture).
Weaving is getting more and more difficult with my bulging baby belly...I'm much slower too. I guess this is a bit of training for when the baby comes because things are going to slow WAY down.
Leave it to me to wait until almost the end of January to actually wish you a happy new year. Sorry about that. I do hope that 2013 is off to a great start for you dear readers.
I've just been plugging away on things...I haven't been feeling my best so that's put me behind in my plans but I hope to soon be back to my regular schedule of weaving things weekly.
These latest pics are a series of 5 that I wove in December just before the holiday. Two of which went to my parents (they always get scarves :) and the rest are for sale over at the Silk Weaving Studio on Granville Island.
I'm really excited that some of my work is available at The Cross in Yaletown. I love love love that store. It's so beautifully curated and I always add like 10 things to my wish list.
There are 9 pieces available there. These won't be available anywhere else so they are special. Go visit this lovely store!
Now, on to another series. I'm working on some patterned pieces at the moment...I'm just in the middle of preparing the warp and making some last minute design changes. I will show you soon!
Working away on new things-this is part of an order for a local store.
I'm short on time right now, I will write more soon!
I've been super busy weaving and dyeing lately...I'm not complaining, I really love it. I've said this many times, but I really do feel lucky to be able to just do this for a living. And I love it when I'm busy, cause that means something's happening...and I like that too.
That only made a little bit of sense... In my defense, I just inhaled fumes from cleaning the bath tub.
So Circle Craft ended this past Sunday. We really had a lot of fun hanging out in our booth, weaving and chatting with customers.
Right now I'm working on two things: One, just finishing up some stuff for the Capilano University Student & Alumni sale, this upcoming Tuesday up at Capilano University. I think this is one of the best textile sales of the year. There is such a mix of things...I've picked up some goodies in the past. This year I am participating as an alumni. I have lots of goodies ready to go including, naturally dyed silk scarves, some wovens in linen, silk and wool, and some other fun stuff I've been playing with. I love participating in this sale because I feel a real freedom creating for it.
Two: I'm working on a couple of series that will be available at a very cool and lovely local store here in Vancouver. This is one of my favourite stores so I'm really excited to be making some special wovens for them.
And there it is, what I've been working on. Happy week everyone.
ps the pic is my very first weaving I completed in textile art school. It is a sampler. I have it hanging on our wall.
