My name is Ana Isabel Sousa and I weave modern, minimalist, tapestries and wall hangings. I design, dye and weave using traditional equipment and processes.. I work with natural fibres. My work is inspired by many things and people, some are nature, modern design, minimalism, materials, ancient Peruvian textiles, textile artists Lenore Tawney, Anni Albers and Sheila Hicks, among other things. The list is long.
I earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in 2000 and completed a diploma in Textile Arts in 2010, I weave for other artists, for the film industry, commissions for private clients, as well as I create my own body of work that I show at different venues annually. I also teach weaving through local studios, community centers and privately.
If you are interested in commissioning a weaving or you have a question about learning to weave, please use the contact page. I try to respond within 24 hours.
All work and images on this website belong to Ana Isabel, please do not use them without permission.
